Different people

In this room you could find people from all walks of life with different life experiences and different age working together. We needed to develop a definitive product, the product that everyone would like to have, the product that everyone would love to buy. The task seemed to be simple. We were divided into several groups and the competition started with a few restrictions, our imagination, a few small procedures to do the presentation and 90 minutes to work with.

The idea

The result was incredible, in spite of the fact that the groups were very heterogeneous groups in age, origin and culture, all of us thought of developing the same type of product, a product that was basically did the same thing, to change your external appearance. Our group developed a whole business plan for “Magic Mask”. I discovered that most people are afraid to admit that physical appearance is important to them. Most people reading this would be extremely aggravated through my accusation that everyone cares about looks. The interesting question is that all of us, including myself of course, decided that the most popular product would be this kind of product. It seems that the external appearance is very important for everyone except for the person who is speaking or who is writing in one particular moment. Why? Because everyone who is going to speak or who is going to write about external appearance, normally, is going to say that it is not important, but deep down it seems to be very important for all of us.

You and your appearence

The fact is that people thinks that beauty affects a person’s success, wealth or power in life. Most experts believe that first impressions can be very lasting, even though you may look and act differently later. Looks alone cannot bring you job success. But not caring about your looks is one sure way to keep yourself from succeeding. Looking like you are ready to work helps to make you feel as though you can do the job. But I wonder if our external appearance is connecting with the real person we are.

When we speak about external appearance we usually think of the beauty industry, models and vanity in general. But for all of mankind external appearance has been and always will be a very important question. From the Amazonian tribal people to the Buddhist monks, external appearance is not only a question of beauty; it is a question of the message one wants to convey to the rest of society and in doing so express who we are. It doesn’t mater if you are worrying about your external appearance, you can use it as a tool. But, what is most important, don´t allow your external appearance control you, transforming you into something you are not. In the end, developing a “Magic Mask” was a great idea, but don’t forget that deep down you will always be what you are.
