A new prophecy
![]() |
Thanks Laury for this picture. Virginia is listening to her prophecy |
To those
who work as prophets
How it all began
A prophecy was about to be announced. She was asleep even while a slight stream of water
began to bathe her eyebrows. Everyone was excited about the event and wanted to see how this little creature remained
impassive while the priest recited
prayers.
Each one of us wanted
the best for this little creature. After the right of passage
we all went to celebrate while Virginia, barely flinching,
was still sleeping and oblivious to everything.
Soon she will begin to understand
everything that we will tell her and then the prophecy will be fulfilled.
The myth
Pygmalion was a
prince of Cyprus and a sculptor who created and fell in love with an ivory
statue of his ideal woman, Galatea. He pleaded with the goddess Venus to give life to his
creation, and she obliged.
Pygmalion married the resulting woman and they had a perfect life together. He
had expected the statue to be perfect in every way, and she fulfilled his
expectations when she was brought to life. What myth shows us is that our
expectation about anyone else will become reality eventually.
How it all works
Simply put,
people tend to expect and look for what they're told to see. So a teacher who
is told that a child is bright, or given some early evidence thereof, is likely
to continue to treat that child in that way, even if the child shows no
evidence of being bright. The same is true of a child if a teacher believes he/she
is not as smart. Teachers tend to give these students less attention and less
guidance, which can cause them to lose motivation and prevent them from
succeeding. Studies show that students who do well in the first several days of
class tend to continue to do well, and this is due at least in part to a
positive reaction from their teachers.
My prophecy my gift
I wish my little niece has all the best but wishing isn't always enough. I
will send to her words of encouragement, which will lead and encourage her to
believe in herself and to overcome her fears, while allowing her to breach her
calling in life. I motivate her to be the best that she could be. This will be
my gift to Virginia that will allow her to find the Galatea who is living
inside her. This is my gift, this is my prophecy.
